Small Holding

Morton, Nottinghamshire

grafted is developing proposals for the sensitive refurbishment and extension of a traditional farmhouse in rural Nottinghamshire.

Located within the Morton conservation area, the existing building had been subject to multiple unsympathetic interventions and additions that detract from its historical character.

The clients, a couple with young children, appointed grafted to resolve the issues with the layout and thermal insulation that have been preventing them from enjoying their family home.

In our designs, the heritage features of the old small holding, such as exposed timber beams, are retained and refurbished.

Poorly-executed additions like the leaky conservatory are removed and replaced with a more thermally-efficient and contemporary extension.

Proposals target a high level of project sustainability. The south-west facing colonnade provides solar shading to the kitchen extension, while an air source heat pump and photovoltaic roof panels provide energy to the home.

Our designs have received planning permission from Newark and Sherwood District Council and we look forward to starting on site in summer 2026.
